Review Policy
Most of the books you see reviewed on this blog were sought out and purchased by me according to my various whims. I’m very picky with my reading time, but I have been known to accept review copies from authors or publishers on occasion, so I suppose it’s about time I write out a policy.
If you are interested in having your book reviewed on Confessions of the One and Only Fiona J.R. Titchenell (That I Know of), please read all of the following.
Formats Accepted:
- Mobi
What I Like:
- YA (most subgenres, but especially those genres I seek out in adult fiction as well)
- Horror
- Sci-Fi
- Some occasional Fantasy
What I Definitely Won’t Accept:
- Religious/Inspirational
- Erotica (graphic sex is fine, but books that have little to them other than sex tend to bore me)
- Nonfiction
- Anything that demeans women/girls in any way or romanticizes sexual assault or intimate partner abuse
- Anything else of a bigoted nature
Note: I have recently started reviewing some graphic novels on this blog, but I’m not accepting review requests for them at this time for the simple reason that my ancient Kindle doesn’t support them, and I don’t feel right accepting physical copies from an author’s limited supply unless I already know the author well enough to feel confident I’ll read and finish them.
Blog Tour Participation:
Ask away! If I think your book sounds like a good fit for my readers, I’m happy to host guest posts/giveaways, even if I may not have time to read and review the book before the launch.
Indie Authors:
Welcome! I make absolutely no promises to accept, finish, or review every book I receive a query about, but independently and traditionally published books will receive equal consideration. I publish on both sides of the fence myself. That said, if your book is riddled with amateurish storytelling cliches, atrocious editing, etc., it won't receive a positive review. In fact, this applies to traditionally published books as well.
How I Review:
Every book review I post includes a letter grade, a brief, spoiler-free summary, a section on what I liked, and a section on what I didn’t (though either of these last two may be a perfunctory sentence or two, depending on how unified my feelings are).
Reviews are always my honest assessment, but I don’t review books that I don’t finish, and I rarely finish books that I truly hate, so my average ratings are generally pretty positive. Any negative reviews I do write of review copies will be posted after the given tour dates if applicable, not during.
Query Process:
Email me here with your book’s title, genre, and blurb, and any relevant information you’d like me to have on release/tour dates. Feel free to attach the Mobi file in your initial email, or wait to see if I express interest first; either is fine with me. No review copies received will ever be copied, shared, or sold.
If I do finish and positively review your book, I will email you the link when it goes live. You are welcome to quote my review in any promotional materials for your book, so long as the excerpt you choose does not substantially change the intent of the words in context.
If you don’t hear back from me, please assume that the particular book you queried wasn’t quite right for me or my blog. Sorry!
