What's a holiday without a little gorging? Here are the fictional treats I want to indulge in this Christmas morning!
What’s better than a mug of hot chocolate on a cold Christmas day? A mug of hot chocolate that can make Judy Dench ask, “You’re sure you didn’t put booze in that?” Chocolat is one of the stories I can count on my fingers that I actually prefer in its movie form that its book one, but in both versions, the spirit-lifting properties of Vianne’s chili-spiked chocolate are legendary, and I’m not brave enough to throw chili and Ovaltine haphazardly together without her guidance in the hopes of reproducing the effect.
Candy in the Christmas stockings has been tradition in my parents’ house for most of my life. To make it special, my Australian mother makes one special overseas order a year for the candies she grew up with. As a result, sherbet abounds. I’d like to take tradition a step further with these sherbet balls that cause levitation and euphoria, thanks to the venom of a Rowling-ized Australian insect. If only the truth were so much fun.
Wait, did I ask what could be better than hot chocolate on the morning after the sleepless night that is Christmas Eve? (Yes, even as a childless adult, I have trouble getting more than a couple hours.) I don’t know about you, but low spirits aren’t going to be the problem I’ll be looking to a hot drink to fix. Raktajino is Klingon coffee, and considering that Klingon wine is several times stronger than whiskey, I can only imagine the lift this’ll give you. Best of all, unlike most things Klingon, people of all species apparently find it more than palatable.
